i dont think i dig on autechre post lp5 as much as i like their older more structured melodic stuff. ep7 was cool for what it was, but it wasn't what i liked autechre for in the first place. confield was pure noise. i used to like noise back when i listened to industrial, and had confield come out back then i would have been all over it, but i'm more into structured beats and lush melodies now. call me a gay, but that's just me.
tri repetae, incunabula, and amber are still their best works ever.
anyone here own the basscadet record?

Fri, October 3, 2003 - 6:50 AMYup, I do. Not my favorite, but certainly fun.
I've got to say that my two favorite Autechre releases are Amber and ep7, so I guess I fall on both sides of the sonic fence. I totally agree with you about Confield though...I can't imagine what they were thinking! -

Fri, October 3, 2003 - 6:36 PMits okay to be convoluted about your taste in music..

Sun, October 5, 2003 - 8:54 PMConfield is awesome. :) The atmospherics they achieve in some of those songs are amazing. One song sounds like something is eating your head.

Re: post lp5.
Sun, October 12, 2003 - 6:22 PMI have to agree. For me, Confield is unlistenable. I have a 400 CD changer that never leaves random play, and I find myself asking "what is this crap?" whenever a Confield song plays. However, when a band composes an absolutely brilliant song like "Eutow" I can't dismiss them easily.
Speaking of which, if you like Tri Repetae++ then you'll also like the album "Advance" by LFO (NOT the crappy boy band). It's hard to find, but totally worth tracking down. I'm sure their new album is good, too.
Cheers,

Sun, October 12, 2003 - 7:59 PMConfield grew on me. When I first heard it I really didn't like it, but now some of the songs are growing on me. I still think some of the beats sound sort of clunky.
I remember when I worked in a record store and saw the boy band lfo. I thought, "what a cool name for such a shitty band!" -

Re: post lp5.
Wed, October 15, 2003 - 3:50 PMConfield is one of those albums that I knew upon first listen I was going to like better over a long period of time. 20+ listens later, I can now say that I thoroughly enjoy this album. It is not pure noise. It can get abrasive, yes, but that is all good in my book. LP7 is great. The Gantz_Graf title track is simply brilliant, not to mention the accompanying video. Draft 7.40 left a lot to be desired, though. I like a few of the tracks, but they each degrade into rubbish half-way through.

Michelle,
I respect your opnion, though mine is completely opposite. I _loved_ Confield when I first heard it, because as much as I loved ep7 and (especially) lp5, I was starting to long for the melodious days of Amber and Incunabula again as well. Confield had some of this stuff again, and I thought it was the coolest. My favorite Ae, though -- I would have to say is either Amber, lp5 (rae makes me smile _so_ wide) or Chiastic Slide (which I _adore_ beyond words).
Regards,
John

Re: post lp5.
Wed, November 12, 2003 - 7:24 PMlp5 is one of my favorite albums from autechre. it depends on what you are looking for in the music. lp5 is more 'plastic' (synthetic) in sound than other albums. quite simple rythms. but it's great in both technical and melodic way. latest albums (confield, draft7.30) are more dark and 'depressive'. if you'll spend enough time on listening to those albums you'll hear it's not only noise ;)
and my autechre's favorites are (in random order): lp5+ep7, tri repetae+anvil vapre, amber, cichlisuite. -

Re: post lp5.
Sun, December 14, 2003 - 12:54 AMIts funny, i liked confield from the start and it has only gotten better. I really think autechre is pioneering a new look at timing and rhythm that is very much needed- its time for electronic music to start exploring polyrhythms and the beats of off beats. Draft seems even more complex, even though it has a smoother overall feel - and there are really some mindblowing arangements. This stuff really isnt noise, its just so different and complex that its difficult to grasp at first. there are logical rhthyms behind it all.
anyway, just my opinion....
there older stuff is amazing as well. -

Re: post lp5.
Fri, December 19, 2003 - 2:57 PMI think my favorites are also amber, incubula and tri repitae (the two volume green CD, right?-- since I always have my autechre discs in one of those round neoprene holders, the album and track names (never all that meaningful anyway) have faded for me...
I'm still trying to get into confield (and even chiastic slide)... it's still a rare day where I can get into two consecutive tracks on those albums... but I'll keep trying... :) -

That album was very disappointing to me. -
