Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Fri, July 2, 2004 - 6:07 PMit's not that i'm not a fan of skinny puppy but, i don't see where they really fit in that list. perhaps some more electro in the sense of 80s tr-808 electro. -

Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Sat, July 3, 2004 - 7:29 PMi figure if someone like Ae a lot, and I like Ae a lot, then we have something in common in the way we listen to music. So i'd hope someone else would post a few names of things i might find interesting, simply because they also find them interesting, and it's happened before that we both found the same thing interesting. it's that simple.
for instance, a friend of mine introduced me to his library of elliot smith records the other day, it's quite excellent stuff, moody and minimal without being cheesy. Also my home town (eugene, or, USA) is having a bach festival this weekend, if anyone's in the area they should definately check it out. -

Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Tue, January 29, 2008 - 12:37 AMIf you like IDM, you might find Atols (www.myspace.com/promoatols) interesting. It could be pretty different from what you usually listen to but isn't it a fan to find a new music?

Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Sat, July 3, 2004 - 7:23 PMi guess my point was more that if you like Ae, you might like skinny puppy, not that they sound a lot alike eachother. i've noticed a fairly large proportion of Ae fans that I've run into also like skinny puppy. Idunno what the connection is, but it seems to be there.

Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Sun, July 4, 2004 - 6:45 AMspeaking of twerk, vladislav delay, etc... does anyone know the current state of the force tracks / force inc / etc. label?
did they die with EFA? -
-
Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Mon, July 5, 2004 - 1:51 AMi dont know about force, but twerk is releasing stuff on sutekh's label at context.fm/, there's single of Motala (from living vicariously...), and he did some work on context 10a that's pretty awesome.
as for v.delay - Demo(n) Tracks is just not doing it for me at all. Too disjointed. Did I just say that? -

Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Mon, July 5, 2004 - 5:49 AMsort of agree on the demo(n) tracks release.
as for v.delay material, i've been listening to the luomo stuff more than anything else by him as of lately.

Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Thu, July 8, 2004 - 11:21 AMI'm surprised that no one mentioned Polygon Window. :)
I like SP too, but Ae is the only other IDM-related band I've listened to (besides the bands that were on that wonderful collection of long ago, "Artifical Intelligence 2"----I never found #1).
Squarepusher is cool, too.
Anyone here a fan of CLIENT? -
-
Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Thu, July 8, 2004 - 11:42 AMPolygon Window and AFX (or Aphex Twin) is the same guy, Richard D. James. He's recorded under a handful of names.
Never heard of CLIENT, got a sample? -

Re: if you like Ae - you might like...
Mon, August 29, 2005 - 7:14 AMif you like autechre you might like...
charles amirkhanian's Par(?) de voix
"ambient sounds altared and arranged in a dizzying sequence of episodes" hmmmmm that
sounds like MANY musicians works I like actually.
Chack out:
New Perspaectives of Music, esp. the electronic editions of their compilation CD's they put out.
also, can't believe no one mentioned
DJ SpOOky aka thatsubliminal kid, aka paul miller
he has a book/cd that is slow but hypnotic to the extreme.
I like most ANY music that surprises you in a good way. -

Hey,
No one mentioned Tetsu Inoue. In my humble opinion, "Waterloo Terminal" is one of the most incredible abstract-electronic records i've ver had the pleasure of hearing (and owning). Anyone who likes Ae's stuff from LP5 onward might find some very cool listening experiences in Tetsu Inoue ... especially this album.

John

Wed, September 14, 2005 - 2:54 PMYes, Tetsu is amazing.
I will see you your abstract record and raise you Curtis Roads.
It's not beat-oriented, though it is perhaps beat-frequency oriented.
Everyone owes it to themself to check out both his cd: point-line cloud
and his book: microsound. He blows my mind.

... also, Jon Sheffield's "It's Been So Long Since I've Seen the Ocean" is pretty glitchy, but nice. Also, anyone here into Mandible Chatter? It's not like Ae in style so much, but it is like Ae in another, not-easily-definable sense, me thinks.
... and don't forget Kid-606, LSR, Matmos ...
Regards,
John, who thought Plaid's "extork" (with the "I was wrong" vocal) from "Not For Threes" was the coolest thing that he heard in 1997-8 :-)
