A quick google for "autechre track names meaning" - complete with "I'm feeling lucky" button turned up :

    rydia.net/~pyrop/autechre/

According to an interview, their track titles don't really mean anything (at least not to the public). A track title might be based on the name of a sample they've used, words that have been messed about with or any other thing they've got in their head. It's also rumoured that they use a computer based generator to create some of the names.

I read this a while back, like how "Montreal" is named such because they like it there.
I've never bought the idea of meaningless track names or lyrics. Your sub-conscious always gets in the way when you're trying to be random or objective, but it's almost impossible to decipher it unless you know the person who came up with it really well.
I think there's some truth behind the album/ep names having a meaning behind them. After all, those names always seem to demand much more thought; something that represents the album well.

      Just my thoughts.

The concept of randonimity in itself is a bit flawed at a very basic level, seeing as everything is so interconnected and all. However, I think the point here is the words are too abstracted to ever re-materealize their meaning, even to their creators in some cases. So they might as well be completely random.

But how could there be meaning behind a track name that was picked by a computer?

well, I think autechre's point may very well be to question the idea of "meaning" as a human construct. We assign meaning to things based on our own, or on shared, experiences and beliefs. Does anything have meaning beyond our own pretensions to assigning meaning? No. A computer does not operate in the realm of symbolism and associative imagery. After all, if someone names a track "green pen" another person could think of all sorts of meanings, and maybe the artist would say something flip like "whatever you want it to mean is right" or they might say something literal, like "oh yeah, I used a green pen to write down the chords for that one" ;-)

It's just sometimes cool if there WAS a source or inspiration for the names that artists use for their work. It can give an insight into their intent with the work. Or it can be distracting I suppose.
